This gingerbread recipe is perfect for any holiday or special occasion! It’s easy to make and can be decorated however you like.

Ingredients

  • -1/2 cup shortening
  • -1/2 cup white sugar
  • -1 egg
  • -1/2 cup light molasses
  • -1 1/2 cups all purpose flour
  • -3/4 teaspoon salt
  • -3/4 teaspoon baking soda
  • -1/2 teaspoon ground ginger

Instructions

1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit (175 degrees Celsius). Grease and lightly flour one 8 inch square baking pan.

2. Cream shortening and sugar until light in color. Add the egg and molasses and beat thoroughly.

3. Sift together the flour, salt, baking soda, ground ginger, and ground cinnamon into a separate bowl or container.

4. Bring water to a boil in a pot on the stovetop then remove from heat source. Allow it to cool for 1 minute then pour into the creamed mixture alternately with flour mixture while beating well after each addition until all ingredients are fully combined into batter consistency.

5Pour batter into prepared pan from step 1 then bake at 350 degrees Fahrenheit (175 degrees Celsius) for 35-40 minutes or until toothpick inserted in center comes out clean with no wet batter residue attached when removed from cake surface.. Serve warm as is or enjoy with your favorite toppings like whipped cream, ice cream, etc
