Ingredients
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 1/4 cup white granulated sugar
- 1/4 cup brown sugar
- 1 large egg
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
Instructions
Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or a silicone mat.
In a large mixing bowl, cream together the softened butter and sugars until light and fluffy.
Beat in the egg and vanilla extract until well combined. In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, and salt.
Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients and mix until just combined.
Stir in the chocolate chips. Scoop 4 equal portions of dough onto the prepared baking sheet, leaving about 2 inches of space between each cookie.
Bake for 18-20 minutes or until the edges are lightly golden brown.
Remove from the oven and let cool on the baking sheet for 5 minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.
Notes
Softened butter is essential for this recipe, so make sure to take it out of the fridge about 30 minutes before using it. Make sure to not overmix the dough, especially when combining the wet and dry ingredients, as this can lead to tough cookies.
If you want a chewier cookie, bake for 16-17 minutes.
For a crisper cookie, bake for 20-22 minutes. These cookies are massive, so make sure to space them out on the baking sheet to allow for proper spreading.
If you want to get fancy, you can press a few extra chocolate chips onto the top of each cookie before baking for an extra-decadent treat.
