George’s Fruit Cookies

George’s Fruit Cookies are a delicious and healthy treat that are perfect for any occasion. Made with fresh fruit, oats, and whole wheat flour, these cookies are packed with flavor and nutrition. George’s Fruit Cookies are sure to be a hit with everyone who tries them!

Ingredients

  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 ½ cups brown sugar, packed
  • 3 eggs
  • 2 tablespoons molasses
  • 1 cup chopped walnuts
  • 1 (8 ounce) can fruit cocktail, drained
  • 1 cup raisins
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon ground cloves
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • ¼ teaspoon baking soda dissolved in 3 tablespoons hot water ½ teaspoon salt plus more for sprinkling on top of cookies before baking 3 ½ cups sifted all-purpose flour

Instructions

1. Preheat oven to 375 degrees F (190 degrees C). In a small bowl, dissolve baking soda in warm water.

2. In a large bowl, cream together the shortening and the sugar. Beat the eggs and mix in. Stir in molasses, chopped nuts, fruit cocktail, raisins and vanilla. Mix in spices, baking soda and salt

3. Sift the flour and stir in. Mix until well blended 4 Drop by teaspoon on a cookie sheet and bake for 10 to 15 minutes
