With only a few simple ingredients, you’ll be indulging in these addictive fudge meltaways in no time.

Ready Time

2 hrs

Yields

6 servings

Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup confectioners’ sugar
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/4 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup semisweet chocolate chips
  • 1/2 cup chopped walnuts (optional)

Instructions

Preheat your oven to 350°F (180°C).

Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or a silicone mat.

In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, confectioners’ sugar, and salt.

Set aside.

In a large bowl, use an electric mixer to cream the butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy.

Beat in the vanilla extract.

Gradually mix in the flour mixture until just combined, being careful not to overmix.

Stir in the chocolate chips and walnuts (if using).

Drop rounded tablespoonfuls of the dough onto the prepared baking sheet, spacing them about 2 inches apart.

Bake for 12-15 minutes, or until the edges are lightly golden.

Remove from the oven and let cool on the baking sheet for 5 minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.

These fudge meltaways are best served fresh, but they can be stored in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 5 days.

Notes

Make sure to use softened butter for the best results, as it’ll make a huge difference in the texture of your Fudge Meltaways.

Use a mix of granulated and confectioners’ sugar for a nice balance of flavors and textures.

Don’t overmix the dough, as it can lead to tough cookies.

Stop mixing as soon as the ingredients come together.

If you choose to add walnuts, chop them finely so they’re evenly distributed throughout the dough.

When dropping the dough onto the baking sheet, make sure to leave enough space between each cookie, as they’ll spread a bit during baking.

Keep an eye on the cookies while they’re baking, as they can go from perfectly cooked to burnt quickly.

Let the cookies cool completely on the wire rack before serving or storing, as they’ll be more prone to breaking if moved while still warm.

These Fudge Meltaways are perfect for a quick dessert or snack, and they make a great addition to any holiday cookie plate.
