Ready Time
35 mins
Yields
7 servings
Ingredients
- 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 1 1/2 cups confectioners’ sugar
- 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
- 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
- 1/2 cup chopped walnuts (optional)
Instructions
Preheat your oven to 350°F (180°C).
Line an 8-inch square baking pan with parchment paper or aluminum foil, leaving some overhang on the sides for easy removal.
In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt.
Set aside.
In a large bowl, use an electric mixer to cream together the butter and confectioners’ sugar until light and fluffy, about 2 minutes.
Beat in the vanilla extract.
Gradually mix in the flour mixture until just combined, being careful not to overmix.
Melt the chocolate chips in a double boiler or in the microwave in 30-second increments, stirring between each interval until smooth.
Allow the chocolate to cool slightly.
Press the dough evenly into the prepared baking pan.
If using walnuts, sprinkle them on top of the dough.
Drizzle the melted chocolate over the dough, spreading it evenly to cover the entire surface.
Bake for 25-30 minutes or until the edges are lightly golden brown.
Remove from the oven and let cool completely in the pan.
Then, use the parchment paper or foil to lift the bars out of the pan and transfer them to a cutting board.
Cut into 7 squares and serve.
Notes
To ensure the fudge bars hold their shape, make sure to press the dough evenly into the prepared baking pan. If using walnuts, sprinkle them evenly to avoid clumps.
Let the chocolate cool slightly before drizzling it over the dough, as this will help it set faster.
Don’t overbake, as the edges should be lightly golden brown – 25-30 minutes should be perfect. If you find the fudge bars too sticky, refrigerate them for 10-15 minutes to firm up before serving.
Cut into 7 squares and store leftovers in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 5 days.
