Ready Time
10 mins
Yields
4 servings
Ingredients
- 1/2 cup (1 stick) unsalted butter, softened
- 1 1/2 cups powdered sugar
- 1/2 cup cream cheese, softened
- 2 teaspoons pure vanilla extract
- 1/4 teaspoon ground allspice
- Pinch of salt
Instructions
In a large mixing bowl, beat the softened butter with an electric mixer until it’s light and fluffy. Gradually add the powdered sugar, beating well after each addition.
Beat in the softened cream cheese until well combined and smooth.
Beat in the vanilla extract, ground allspice, and a pinch of salt until well combined. Continue beating until the frosting is light, fluffy, and smooth.
Use immediately, or store in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
Bring to room temperature before using.
Notes
Make sure to use room temperature butter and cream cheese for the creamiest frosting. If your butter is still a bit cold, you can soften it in the microwave in 10-second increments, checking until it’s perfect.
Don’t overbeat the frosting, as it can become too light and airy.
If you’re not using the frosting immediately, press plastic wrap directly onto the surface to prevent air from reaching it. This frosting is perfect for topping cakes, cupcakes, or cookies, and pairs especially well with autumn and winter flavors.
If you’re new to working with cream cheese frosting, don’t worry if it’s a bit too thin – it will firm up in the refrigerator.
