Ready Time
1 hrs 15 mins
Yields
10 servings
Ingredients
- 2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 tsp baking powder
- 1 tsp baking soda
- 1 tsp salt
- 1 cup unsalted butter, at room temperature
- 3/4 cup granulated sugar
- 1 cup brown sugar
- 2 large eggs
- 2 teaspoons pure vanilla extract
- Colored sugar or sprinkles for decorating (optional)
Instructions
Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or a silicone mat.
In a medium-sized bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
Set aside. In a large bowl, use an electric mixer to cream together the butter and sugars until light and fluffy, about 2-3 minutes.
Beat in the eggs one at a time, making sure each egg is fully incorporated before adding the next.
Beat in the vanilla extract. Gradually mix in the dry ingredients (flour mixture) until just combined, being careful not to overmix.
If desired, divide the dough into two portions and mix in a few drops of food coloring to create a fun color.
You can also leave the dough as is for a classic sugar cookie. Scoop tablespoon-sized balls of dough onto the prepared baking sheet, leaving about 2 inches of space between each cookie.
Bake for 10-12 minutes, or until the edges are lightly golden.
Remove the cookies from the oven and let them cool on the baking sheet for 5 minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely. If desired, decorate the cookies with colored sugar or sprinkles.
These cookies are perfect for any occasion!
Notes
Use high-quality ingredients for the best flavor and texture. Make sure to use room temperature butter for a light and fluffy cookie.
If you want a chewier cookie, bake for 8-10 minutes.
If you prefer a crisper cookie, bake for 12-14 minutes. To ensure even baking, try to make the dough balls as uniform in size as possible.
If you’re using colored sugar or sprinkles, decorate the cookies immediately after they’ve cooled to prevent the decorations from melting or falling off.
You can also freeze the dough for up to 2 months or bake and freeze the cookies for up to 2 months – simply thaw at room temperature or bake frozen cookies for an extra 2-3 minutes.
