Sugar Cookies II

  • 2 1/4 cups granulated sugar
  • 1 1/2 cups unsalted butter, softened
  • 3 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
  • 3 cups milk (whole or 2%)
  • 9 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda


1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C).

2. In a large bowl, cream together the butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Add the eggs one at a time, beating well with each addition, then stir in the vanilla.

3. Combine the flour, baking powder and baking soda, stir into the creamed mixture alternately with the milk. Drop by rounded tablespoonfuls onto an unprepared cookie sheet.

4 Bake for 8 to 10 minutes in preheated oven until golden brown around edges; let cookies cool on baking sheet for 5 minutes before removing to wire rack to finish cooling completely (about 10 more minutes). You may glaze with confectioners’ sugar when cool if desired
