Strawberry Caprese Salad
Sweet summer bliss! This Strawberry Caprese Salad is a refreshing twist on the classic Italian dish, replacing tomatoes with luscious strawberries and fresh mozzarella cheese. The sweetness of the strawberries pairs perfectly with the creaminess of the mozzarella and the tanginess of the balsamic vinaigrette.
Ready Time
20 mins
Yields
10 servings
Ingredients
- 2 cups fresh strawberries, hulled and sliced
- 20 oz fresh mozzarella cheese, sliced
- 10 oz fresh basil leaves, chopped
- 1/2 cup extra-virgin olive oil
- 2 tbsp balsamic vinegar
- Salt and pepper, to taste
Instructions
Start by preparing your ingredients, slice the fresh strawberries and set them aside on a plate or platter. Arrange the slices of mozzarella cheese on top of the strawberries, leaving a small border around the edges.
Next, sprinkle the chopped fresh basil leaves over the mozzarella cheese.
Make sure to spread them out evenly to cover the entire surface. In a small bowl, whisk together the extra-virgin olive oil and balsamic vinegar until well combined.
Season the dressing with salt and pepper to taste.
Drizzle the dressing over the salad, making sure to cover the entire surface. You can use all of the dressing or store any leftover in the fridge for later.
Cover the salad with plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes to allow the flavors to meld together.
Serve chilled and enjoy!
Notes
Use the freshest strawberries possible for the best flavor and texture.
You can also use buffalo mozzarella cheese for an even creamier texture.
Don’t overdress the salad, as the strawberries will release their juices and make the salad soggy.
To make ahead, prepare the salad up to the dressing step, then refrigerate until ready to serve.
You can customize this recipe by adding some chopped pecans or pistachios for added crunch.
This salad is perfect for a light and refreshing summer lunch or dinner, or as a side dish for a dinner party.
Be gentle when washing the basil leaves to avoid bruising them.
You can also use Burrata cheese instead of mozzarella for a surprise creamy center.
Refrigerate any leftovers in an airtight container for up to 24 hours.
