Grandma Sheets’ Sugar Cookies

There’s nothing like a sugar cookie made by grandma. This recipe for Grandma Sheets’ Sugar Cookies is the perfect way to enjoy a classic treat. These cookies are soft and chewy, with just the right amount of sweetness. The dough is also super easy to work with, so you can make these cookies in no time at all.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups granulated sugar
  • 1 cup butter, softened
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 3 eggs
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 5 cups all-purpose flour

Instructions

1. Preheat your oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit.

2. In a bowl, mix together 2 cups of granulated sugar, 1 cup of softened butter, 2 teaspoons of baking powder, and 1 teaspoon of ground nutmeg.

3. Beat 3 eggs and add them into the mixture from step 2.

4. Combine 1 cup of milk with 1 teaspoon of baking soda and pour it into the mixture from step 3.

5. Add 5 cups of all-purpose flour into the mixture from step 4 until the dough is not too sticky and can be rolled out onto a surface without sticking, about 1/4 inch thick or so..

If it is humid where you live, it may help to refrigerate the dough for 15 minutes before proceeding to prevent sticking8 Cut out cookies with any desired cookie cutter shape and place them on an ungreased cookie sheet9 Bake in preheated oven for 8 minutes or until they are very lightly browned around edges or on bottom10 Remove cookies from sheets and cool on flattened grocery bags wire racks11 Enjoy!
