Brownies In A Jar

These adorable brownies in a jar are the perfect treat to share with friends and family, or to enjoy all to yourself (no judgments here!).

Rich, fudgy, and utterly decadent, they’re perfect for any occasion – and the cutest presentation doesn’t hurt, either.

Ready Time

2 hrs

Yields

10 servings

Ingredients

  • all-purpose flour: 1 1/2 cups
  • unsweetened cocoa powder: 3/4 cup
  • baking powder: 1 teaspoon
  • salt: 1 teaspoon
  • granulated sugar: 2 1/4 cups
  • brown sugar: 1 cup
  • unsalted butter: 1 cup
  • large eggs: 4
  • vanilla extract: 1 teaspoon
  • semi-sweet chocolate chips: 1 cup
  • chopped walnuts: 1 cup
  • mason jars: 10
  • rock salt: for garnish

Instructions

Preheat your oven to 350°F (180°C). In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, and salt.

Set aside.

In a large bowl, use an electric mixer to cream together the granulated sugar and brown sugar until light and fluffy. Beat in the butter until well combined, then add the eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition.

Beat in the vanilla extract.

Gradually mix in the flour mixture until just combined, being careful not to overmix. Stir in the chocolate chips and walnuts.

Spoon about 1/4 cup of the batter into each of the 10 mason jars, leaving about 1 inch of space at the top.

Place the jars on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Bake for 25-30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center of a brownie comes out clean.

Remove the jars from the oven and let them cool completely on a wire rack.

Once the brownies have cooled, sprinkle a pinch of rock salt on top of each one for garnish. Seal the jars tightly and store them in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 5 days.

Notes

Use high-quality cocoa powder for a richer flavor.

Make sure to not overmix the batter, as it can result in tough brownies.

If using a convection oven, reduce baking time by 5-7 minutes.

For an extra crunchy top, bake the brownies for an additional 2-3 minutes.

If you don’t have unsalted butter, you can use salted butter and omit the additional 1 teaspoon of salt.

Chopped pecans or hazelnuts can be substituted for the walnuts if you prefer.

Don’t overbake, as the brownies will continue to set in the jars as they cool.

You can customize the jars by decorating them with ribbons or labels before gifting.
