- 2 large sweet potatoes, cooked and mashed
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
- 1/4 teaspoon ground ginger
- 1/4 teaspoon ground cloves
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted
- 2 large eggs
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 pie crust (homemade or store-bought)
Instructions
Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). In a large bowl, combine the mashed sweet potatoes, granulated sugar, flour, salt, cinnamon, nutmeg, ginger, and cloves.
Mix well until smooth.
Add the melted butter, eggs, and vanilla extract to the bowl. Stir until well combined.
Roll out the pie crust and place it in a 9-inch pie dish.
Fill the pie crust with the sweet potato mixture and smooth the top. Bake the pie for 45-50 minutes or until the crust is golden brown and the filling is set.
Let the pie cool on a wire rack for at least 30 minutes before serving.
Notes
To ensure your sweet potatoes are cooked through, bake or boil them until they’re tender when pierced with a fork.
Let them cool before mashing.
When using a store-bought pie crust, follow the package instructions for thawing and baking.
Don’t overmix the sweet potato mixture, as it can become gluey.
Stop mixing once everything is well combined.
If you’re not comfortable making your own pie crust, a graham cracker crust is a great alternative.
Simply crush 1 1/2 cups of graham crackers and mix with 1/4 cup of sugar and 6 tablespoons of melted butter.
Press into a pie dish and bake at 350°F for 8-10 minutes or until lightly browned.
Let the pie cool completely before refrigerating or freezing.
It’s perfect for making ahead of time!
