Ready Time
45 mins
Yields
6 servings
Ingredients
- 3-4 large baking potatoes
- 1/4 cup olive oil
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1/2 teaspoon paprika
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
- 1/4 teaspoon chili powder (optional)
- 6 tablespoons shredded cheddar cheese (optional)
- 6 tablespoons sour cream (optional)
- Chopped fresh chives or scallions (optional)
Instructions
Preheat the air fryer to 400°F (200°C).
Scrub the potatoes clean and pat them dry with a paper towel to remove any excess moisture.
In a large bowl, mix together the olive oil, salt, garlic powder, paprika, black pepper, and chili powder (if using).
Add the potatoes to the bowl and toss them to coat them evenly with the oil and spice mixture.
Place the potatoes in a single layer in the air fryer basket.
You may need to cook them in batches depending on the size of your air fryer.
Cook the potatoes for 40-45 minutes, or until they are crispy on the outside and tender on the inside, shaking the basket halfway through.
If using cheese, sprinkle it on top of the potatoes and cook for an additional 1-2 minutes, or until melted and bubbly.
Remove the potatoes from the air fryer and top them with sour cream and chives (if using).
Serve hot and enjoy!
Notes
For best results, use high-quality potatoes that are high in starch, like Russet or Idaho potatoes, for a crispy outside and fluffy inside.
To ensure crispy potatoes, pat them dry thoroughly with a paper towel before coating them with the oil and spice mixture.
Don’t overcrowd the air fryer basket, as this can prevent the potatoes from cooking evenly.
Cook in batches if necessary.
Shaking the basket halfway through cooking helps redistribute the potatoes and promotes even crisping.
If using cheese, sprinkle it on top of the potatoes in a single layer to ensure even melting.
Optional toppings can elevate the flavor and texture of the dish, so feel free to get creative with sour cream, chives, and other toppings of your choice.
To make this recipe more substantial, consider adding diced meats, like bacon or chives, or some diced veggies, like bell peppers or onions, to the potatoes before cooking.
For an extra crispy exterior, try soaking the potatoes in cold water for about 30 minutes before cooking to remove excess starch.
