Ingredients
- 2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 cup unsalted butter, at room temperature
- 3/4 cup granulated sugar
- 1 egg
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- Colored sugar or sprinkles for decorating
Instructions
Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper. In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, and salt.
Set aside.
In another large bowl, use an electric mixer to cream together the butter and sugar until light and fluffy, about 2-3 minutes. Beat in the egg and vanilla extract until well combined.
Gradually mix in the dry ingredients until a dough forms.
Wrap the dough in plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes. On a lightly floured surface, roll out the dough to about 1/4 inch thickness.
Use your favorite cookie cutters to cut out shapes.
You can also use a glass or a knife to cut out simple shapes. Place the cut-out cookies on the prepared baking sheet, leaving about 1 inch of space between each cookie.
Bake for 10-12 minutes or until the edges are lightly golden.
Allow the cookies to cool on the baking sheet for 5 minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely. Once the cookies are cool, decorate with colored sugar or sprinkles as desired.
