Three C Bread

Three C Bread is a delightful treat that combines the simplicity of three core ingredients – flour, yeast, and water – to create a deliciously soft and airy loaf.

With a subtle sweetness and a tender crumb, this bread is perfect for sandwiches, toast, or just snacking on its own.

Ready Time

1 hrs 30 mins

Yields

7 servings

Ingredients

  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • 1 packet active dry yeast
  • 1/4 cup warm water
  • 1/4 cup milk
  • 2 large eggs

Instructions

In a large mixing bowl, whisk together 3 cups of all-purpose flour, 1 teaspoon of salt, and 1 teaspoon of sugar. In a separate bowl, proof the yeast by mixing 1 packet of active dry yeast with 1/4 cup of warm water.

Let it sit for 5-7 minutes until it becomes frothy.

Add the yeast mixture to the dry ingredients and mix until a shaggy dough forms. In another bowl, whisk together 1/4 cup of milk and 2 large eggs.

Add this mixture to the dough and mix until a sticky ball forms.

Knead the dough on a floured surface for 10-12 minutes until it becomes smooth and elastic. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover it with a damp cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour, or until it has doubled in size.

Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).

Punch down the dough and shape it into a round or oblong loaf. Place the loaf on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper, leaving about 1 inch of space around it.

Bake for 35-40 minutes, or until the bread is golden brown and sounds hollow when tapped on the bottom.

Remove the bread from the oven and let it cool on a wire rack for at least 10-15 minutes before slicing. Slice into 7 equal portions and serve.

Notes

Use bread flour instead of all-purpose flour for a chewier crumb and better texture.

Make sure the warm water is not too hot, as it can kill the yeast.

If you’re unsure, test the temperature with your hand – it should feel comfortable.

Let the yeast mixture sit for the full 5-7 minutes to ensure it’s fully activated.

Don’t overmix the dough, as this can lead to a dense loaf.

If you find the dough too sticky, add a little more flour.

If it’s too dry, add a little more milk.

Keep an eye on the bread while it’s baking, as the baking time may vary depending on your oven.

Let the bread cool completely before storing it in an airtight container to preserve freshness.

If you want a crispy crust, bake the bread for an additional 5-10 minutes.
