Grilled Cheese
The classic grilled cheese – a comforting, creamy, and indulgent treat that’s easy to whip up and always hits the spot! With just a few simple ingredients, you can create the perfect blend of melted cheese sandwiched between crispy, buttery bread.
It’s a childhood favorite that never goes out of style.
Ready Time

Yields
6 servings
Ingredients
- 6 slices of bread
- 12 slices of cheese (such as cheddar, American, or provolone)
- 2 tablespoons of butter, divided
- Salt and pepper, to taste
Instructions
Preheat a grill or grill pan to medium-low heat. Butter one side of three slices of bread.
Place one slice of bread, butter-side down, in the grill or grill pan.
Place one or two slices of cheese on top of the bread. Place another slice of bread, butter-side up, on top of the cheese.
Repeat with the remaining ingredients to make five more sandwiches.
Cook for 2-3 minutes or until the bread is golden brown and the cheese is melted. Carefully flip the sandwiches over and cook for an additional 2-3 minutes or until the other side is also golden brown.
Remove from heat and season with salt and pepper to taste.
Serve immediately and repeat with the remaining sandwiches.
Notes
You can use any type of cheese you like, so don’t be afraid to get creative and try different combinations.
Just be sure to adjust the melting time based on the type of cheese you’re using.
Using a grill pan is a great alternative if you don’t have an outdoor grill, and it’s perfect for making grilled cheese year-round.
To ensure the cheese melts evenly, apply gentle pressure to the sandwiches with your spatula while they’re cooking.
Don’t overcrowd the grill or grill pan – cook the sandwiches in batches if necessary, to ensure they cook evenly and the cheese melts properly.
For an extra crispy crust, cook the sandwiches in a skillet over medium heat instead of a grill or grill pan.
You can also add some sliced meats, such as ham or turkey, to make your grilled cheese more substantial.
Keep an eye on the heat and adjust as needed to prevent burning.
