Ready Time

35 mins

Yields

4 servings

Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1/4 cup white granulated sugar
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup rolled oats
  • 1/2 cup chopped walnuts (optional)
  • 1/4 cup dark chocolate chips

Instructions

Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).

Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or a silicone mat.

In a large bowl, cream together the softened butter, white granulated sugar, and brown sugar until light and fluffy.

Beat in the large egg and vanilla extract until well combined.

In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, and salt.

Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients and mix until a dough forms.

Stir in the rolled oats, chopped walnuts (if using), and dark chocolate chips.

Scoop tablespoon-sized balls of dough onto the prepared baking sheet, leaving about 2 inches of space between each cookie.

Bake for 10-12 minutes, or until the edges are lightly golden.

Remove the cookies from the oven and let them cool on the baking sheet for 5 minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely.

Repeat the baking process until all the dough is used up, which should yield about 4 servings.

Notes

Use high-quality butter for the best flavor and texture.

Don’t overmix the dough, as it can lead to tough cookies.

If using walnuts, be gentle when stirring to avoid breaking them.

Make sure to space the cookies out on the baking sheet, as they will spread during baking.

If you want a chewier cookie, bake for 9 minutes; if you prefer a crisper cookie, bake for 12 minutes.

Store cookies in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 5 days.

Freeze for longer storage.
