Ingredients
- 1 1/2 sticks of unsalted butter, at room temperature
- 1 cup of graham cracker crumbs
- 1 cup of sweetened condensed milk
- 1 cup of chocolate chips
- 1 cup of butterscotch chips
- 1 cup of chopped walnuts
- 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract
- 1/2 teaspoon of salt
Instructions
Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
Line an 8-inch square baking dish with parchment paper or aluminum foil, leaving some overhang for easy removal.
In a medium bowl, cream together the room temperature butter and graham cracker crumbs until well combined.
Press the mixture into the prepared baking dish.
Bake the crust for 10 minutes, then set it aside to cool completely.
In a large bowl, whisk together the sweetened condensed milk, vanilla extract, and salt until smooth.
Pour the mixture over the cooled crust.
Sprinkle the chocolate chips, butterscotch chips, and chopped walnuts evenly over the sweetened condensed milk layer.
Bake for an additional 25-30 minutes, or until the top is lightly golden brown.
Remove the bars from the oven and let them cool completely in the pan.
Once cooled, use the parchment paper or aluminum foil to lift the bars out of the pan and cut them into squares.
You should get 6 bars in total.
Notes
Make sure to use room temperature butter for the crust to ensure it mixes well with the graham cracker crumbs. Don’t overbake the crust, 10 minutes should be just enough to set it without overcooking.
When combining the sweetened condensed milk mixture, make sure it’s smooth and creamy before pouring it over the crust.
Press the chocolate chips, butterscotch chips, and chopped walnuts firmly onto the sweetened condensed milk layer to ensure they stick well. Keep an eye on the bars during the last 5-7 minutes of baking, you want them lightly golden brown on top.
Let the bars cool completely before cutting them, this will help them hold their shape.
These bars are best served fresh, but they can be stored in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 5 days.
