Mocha Icing Recipe

Ingredients
- 1 cup powdered sugar
- 2 tablespoons unsweetened cocoa powder
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 4 tablespoons unsalted butter, softened
- 2 tablespoons heavy cream
Instructions
In a large mixing bowl, sift together the powdered sugar, cocoa powder, and salt until well combined. Add in the vanilla extract and mix until smooth.
Gradually add in the softened butter, mixing until a smooth and creamy paste forms.
Add in the heavy cream, one tablespoon at a time, until you reach your desired consistency for the icing. You may not need all of the cream, so add it slowly and be prepared to stop adding cream when you reach the right consistency.
Beat the mixture for an additional 2-3 minutes until it’s light and fluffy.
Use immediately, or store in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. Bring to room temperature before using.
Notes
Make sure to sift the powdered sugar, cocoa powder, and salt really well to avoid any lumps in your icing.
If you find your icing is too thin, don’t panic! Just add a bit more powdered sugar to thicken it up.
And if it’s too thick, add a teensy bit more cream.
If you’re not using the icing right away, be sure to store it in an airtight container in the fridge to keep it fresh.
It’s also a great idea to bring it to room temperature before using to get the best results.
You can easily customize this icing recipe by adding a teaspoon of espresso powder to really bring out the mocha flavor.
This icing recipe makes about 5 servings, so feel free to double or triple the recipe if you need more.
