Meltaway Brownies

These brownies are rich and fudgy, with a crisp top and an addictively chewy center. They’re made with plenty of chocolate, both in the batter and melted into a glossy glaze on top.

Ingredients

  • -1 cup butter
  • -4 squares unsweetened chocolate
  • -3/4 cup packed brown sugar
  • -1/4 cup water
  • -2 eggs
  • -1 tsp vanilla extract
  • -1/3 cup all purpose flour
  • -1/4 tsp salt
  • -2 cups chopped walnuts

Instructions

1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C).

2. In a small saucepan, melt together butter and chocolate over low heat. Remove from heat and stir in the brown sugar. Allow the mixture to cool slightly before adding water, egg yolk and vanilla extract; beat well.

3. Stir in flour and salt until combined then set aside.

4. In a separate bowl, use an electric mixer at high speed to beat egg whites until stiff peaks form then fold into the chocolate mixture along with chopped nuts if desired.

5. Pour batter into a greased 9-inch square pan and bake for 35 minutes or Until set around the edges Cool for a few minutes before removing from pan to wire rack to cool completely
