Homemade Teriyaki Shrimp
Sweet and savory, this homemade teriyaki shrimp recipe is an Asian-inspired delight! With a few simple ingredients and a quick marinade, these succulent shrimp transform into a mouthwatering main course, perfect for a weeknight dinner or a special occasion.

Ingredients
- 1 pound large shrimp, peeled and deveined
- 1/2 cup soy sauce
- 1/4 cup brown sugar
- 1/4 cup rice vinegar
- 2 tablespoons grated fresh ginger
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 teaspoon sesame oil
- 1/4 teaspoon red pepper flakes
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 2 green onions, thinly sliced, for garnish
- Sesame seeds, for garnish
Instructions
Combine soy sauce, brown sugar, rice vinegar, grated ginger, garlic, sesame oil, red pepper flakes, black pepper, and salt in a blender or food processor. Blend until smooth to make the teriyaki sauce.
In a large bowl, whisk together 1/2 cup of the teriyaki sauce and 1/4 cup of water.
Add the shrimp and let marinate in the refrigerator for at least 30 minutes or up to 2 hours. Preheat a large skillet or wok over medium-high heat.
Remove the shrimp from the marinade, allowing any excess to drip off.
Add the shrimp to the skillet and cook for 2-3 minutes per side, or until pink and cooked through. Transfer the cooked shrimp to a plate and brush with the remaining teriyaki sauce.
Garnish with green onions and sesame seeds.
Serve immediately.
Notes
You can customize the sweetness level of the teriyaki sauce to your taste by adjusting the amount of brown sugar. If you prefer a thicker sauce, simmer the teriyaki sauce for about 5-7 minutes before using it.
Make sure to pat the shrimp dry with paper towels before marinating to remove excess moisture.
Don’t overcrowd the skillet when cooking the shrimp, cook in batches if necessary, to ensure they have enough room to cook evenly. If you want to add some crunch, throw in some chopped bell peppers or snap peas to the skillet with the shrimp.
You can prep the teriyaki sauce and store it in the fridge for up to 2 weeks, making it a great addition to your meal prep routine.
You can also serve the shrimp with steamed vegetables or over a bed of rice or noodles for a filling meal.
