Grammie’s Sweet Milk Cookies

There’s nothing like a homemade cookie, and Grammie’s Sweet Milk Cookies are some of the best. These cookies are made with milk, butter, sugar, flour, eggs, vanilla extract, and baking powder. They’re soft and chewy with just the right amount of sweetness.


  • 1 egg
  • 1 cup white sugar
  • ½ cup butter, softened
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 2 teaspoons cream of tartar
  • ¼ teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • ¼ teaspoon salt
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • ⅓ cup granulated sugar for decoration (optional)
  • ¾ cup sweetened condensed milk


1. In a bowl, whisk together egg, sugar, butter, baking soda, cream of tartar, nutmeg and salt until smooth.

2. Add flour to the mixture 1/2 cup at a time until dough is soft but not sticky (you may not need the full 2 cups).

3. Place dough on a lightly floured surface and roll out to 1/2-inch thickness. Cut out cookies with a biscuit cutter and place on an ungreased baking sheet. Sprinkle cookies with granulated sugar if desired.

4. Bake in a preheated 350 degree F oven for 8-10 minutes or until golden brown around the edges. Remove from baking sheet to cool on wire racks
