Ready Time

15 mins

Yields

6 servings

Ingredients

  • 2 cups rolled oats
  • 1/2 cup mashed banana
  • 1/4 cup breast milk or formula
  • 1/4 cup melted coconut oil
  • 1 tablespoon honey or maple syrup (optional)

Instructions

Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). In a large mixing bowl, combine the oats, mashed banana, and breast milk or formula.

Mix everything together until you get a thick, sticky dough.

If you want to add a touch of sweetness, now’s the time to mix in that tablespoon of honey or maple syrup. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

Use your hands to shape the dough into small balls, about 1-inch (2.5 cm) in diameter.

You should end up with around 6 balls. Place the oatmeal balls onto the prepared baking sheet, leaving about 2 inches (5 cm) of space between each ball to allow for spreading.

Bake in the preheated oven for 15 minutes, or until the edges are lightly golden.

Remove the oatmeal bites from the oven and let them cool completely on the baking sheet. Once cooled, store them in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 3 days or freeze for up to 2 months.

Notes

These oatmeal bites are best consumed within a few days of baking, so try to use them up within 3 days or freeze them for later.

Keep an eye on the bites while they’re baking, as the edges can quickly go from lightly golden to burnt.

If you’re using breast milk, make sure it’s fresh and not expired.

You can also customize this recipe by adding a sprinkle of cinnamon or nutmeg on top of the bites before baking.

If your baby is just starting solids, you may want to start with a smaller batch to ensure they can tolerate the oats.

Be patient, as the dough may take some time to come together, but the end result is worth it!
