Ingredients

  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 medium onion, diced
  • 2 cloves of garlic, minced
  • 1 cup frozen peas
  • 1 can (14.5 oz) diced tomatoes
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1 teaspoon dried basil
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 pound pasta of your choice (e.g., penne, rotini, or bow tie)
  • 2 cups grated cheddar cheese
  • 1 cup grated mozzarella cheese
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil

Instructions

Cook the pasta according to package instructions until al dente, then set aside.

In a large pot, heat the olive oil over medium-high heat.

Add the diced onion and cook until translucent, about 3-4 minutes.

Add the minced garlic and cook for an additional minute, until fragrant.

Add the ground beef to the pot, breaking it up with a spoon as it cooks, until it’s no longer pink, about 5-7 minutes.

Add the diced tomatoes, dried oregano, dried basil, salt, and black pepper to the pot.

Stir well to combine.

Add the frozen peas to the pot and cook until thawed and heated through.

Add the cooked pasta to the pot, stirring to combine with the meat and tomato mixture.

In a large bowl, combine the cheddar and mozzarella cheese.

Add the milk to the cheese mixture and stir until smooth.

Add the cheese mixture to the pot, stirring until melted and smooth.

Combine everything in the pot, stirring until the cheese is well coated and the pasta is heated through.

Serve hot and immediately.

Notes

Use a large, deep pot to accommodate all the ingredients and to prevent overflow.

Make sure to cook the pasta al dente to avoid mushy pasta in the final dish.

While cooking the ground beef, break it up regularly to achieve a nice texture.

If using frozen peas, thaw them first by soaking them in hot water or by microwaving according to package instructions.

To avoid a lumpy cheese sauce, make sure the milk is at room temperature and stir constantly until smooth.

Stir the pot constantly when adding the cheese mixture to avoid cheese lumps.

This recipe makes a generous amount of pasta, perfect for a crowd or for leftovers.

Consider customizing the recipe with your favorite toppings, such as diced bell peppers or chopped bacon.
