Ingredients
- 2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 2 large eggs
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- Colored sugar or sprinkles for decorating
Instructions
Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or a silicone mat.
In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
Set aside. In a large bowl, cream the butter and sugar until light and fluffy, about 2-3 minutes.
Beat in the eggs one at a time, followed by the vanilla extract.
Gradually mix in the flour mixture until just combined, being careful not to overmix. Divide the dough into 5 equal portions.
Roll each portion into a ball and then flatten slightly into a disk shape.
Place the dough disks onto the prepared baking sheet, leaving about 2 inches of space between each cookie. Bake for 18-20 minutes, or until the edges are lightly golden.
Remove from the oven and let cool on the baking sheet for 5 minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.
Once the cookies are cool, decorate with colored sugar or sprinkles as desired.
Notes
Make sure to use room temperature eggs for a lighter texture.
For a crisper cookie, bake for 18 minutes.
If you prefer a chewier cookie, bake for 20 minutes.
Don’t overmix the dough, as it can lead to tough cookies.
To ensure even baking, try to make the dough disks as uniform in size as possible.
If you’re planning to decorate the cookies, let them cool completely to prevent the colored sugar or sprinkles from melting.
