Ready Time
45 mins
Yields
7 servings
Ingredients
- Pickle slices (about 1 large pickle or 2 small pickles)
- 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon paprika
- 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
- 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper (optional)
- 1/2 cup buttermilk
- Vegetable oil spray
- For the Creole Dipping Sauce:
- 1/2 cup mayonnaise
- 1/4 cup ketchup
- 1 tablespoon hot sauce (such as Tabasco)
- 1 tablespoon chopped fresh parsley
- 1 teaspoon Dijon mustard
- 1/2 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
- 1/2 teaspoon dried oregano
- Salt and pepper to taste
Instructions
In a shallow dish, mix together the flour, paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, black pepper, and cayenne pepper (if using). Pour the buttermilk into a separate shallow dish.
Dip each pickle slice into the buttermilk, coating completely, then roll in the flour mixture to coat.
Place the coated pickle slice on a plate or tray. Repeat with the remaining pickle slices.
Spray the air fryer basket with vegetable oil spray.
Load the pickle slices into the air fryer basket in a single layer, leaving some space between each slice. Cook the pickle slices in the air fryer at 375°F (190°C) for 10-12 minutes, shaking halfway through.
While the pickle slices are cooking, mix all the Creole Dipping Sauce ingredients in a bowl until smooth.
Taste and adjust the seasoning as needed. Once the pickle slices are crispy and golden, remove them from the air fryer.
Serve hot with the Creole Dipping Sauce.
Notes
For the crispiest results, make sure to pat the pickle slices dry with a paper towel before coating them with flour mixture.
This helps the coating stick better and prevents excess moisture from interfering with the crisping process.
If you want an extra crunchy coating, you can chill the coated pickle slices in the refrigerator for 30 minutes before air-frying.
Don’t overcrowd the air fryer basket, as this can prevent the pickle slices from cooking evenly.
Cook them in batches if necessary.
For a lighter coating, you can reduce the amount of flour mixture or use panko breadcrumbs instead.
If you prefer a lighter Creole Dipping Sauce, you can reduce the amount of mayonnaise and increase the amount of ketchup.
You can adjust the level of heat in the Creole Dipping Sauce by adding more or less hot sauce to taste.
Store leftover Creole Dipping Sauce in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 1 week.
These Air Fryer Crispy Pickle Chips are best served immediately, but you can store them in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 24 hours.
Simply crisp them up in the air fryer again before serving.
