Yields

10 servings

Ingredients

  • 1 and 1/2 sticks of unsalted butter, plus more for greasing the pan
  • 1 cup of sugar
  • 4 large eggs
  • 2 teaspoons of pure vanilla extract
  • 1 and 1/4 cups of all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon of salt
  • 1 cup of unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 cup of semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • 1/2 cup of strong brewed coffee
  • 1/2 cup of chopped walnuts (optional)

Instructions

First, preheat your oven to 350°F (180°C) and grease an 8-inch square baking pan with butter, then line it with parchment paper. Next, melt the butter and sugar in a medium saucepan over low heat, stirring occasionally, until the butter is melted.

Remove from heat.

Let it cool slightly, then stir in the cocoa powder until it’s well combined. Let it cool to room temperature.

Once cooled, stir in the eggs one at a time, followed by the vanilla extract.

In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour and salt. Add the flour mixture to the saucepan and stir until just combined.

Stir in the chocolate chips and walnuts (if using).

Then, pour in the brewed coffee and stir until the mixture is smooth. Pour the batter into the prepared baking pan and smooth the top.

Bake for 25-30 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out with a few moist crumbs.

Remove from the oven and let it cool completely in the pan before cutting into squares and serving.

Notes

Use high-quality cocoa powder for the best flavor. For the brewed coffee, use a strong brew or espresso for the most intense flavor.

If using walnuts, toast them in a 350°F oven for 5-7 minutes to enhance their flavor.

Don’t overmix the batter, as this can lead to dense brownies. If you want a gooey center, bake for 23-25 minutes.

If you prefer a firmer brownie, bake for 27-30 minutes.

Let the brownies cool completely in the pan to ensure they set properly. For clean cuts, use a sharp knife and wipe it clean between cuts.

Store leftover brownies in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days.

Freeze for longer storage.
