Rumford Sugar Cookies

These sugar cookies are soft and chewy with a hint of rum flavor. They’re perfect for any holiday or special occasion!

Ingredients

  • 2 cups white sugar
  • 1 cup shortening
  • 3 eggs
  • 2 tablespoons water
  • 3 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • ½ teaspoon ground cloves
  • 3 cups all-purpose flour

Instructions

1. Preheat oven to 400-450 degrees Fahrenheit (200-230 degrees Celsius).

2. In a bowl, cream together the sugar and shortening.

3. Add the eggs and beat until light and fluffy.

4. In another bowl, mix together the water, baking powder, nutmeg, cloves, and flour.

5. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing until well blended.

6. Place dough on a floured surface and roll out to 1/4 inch thickness with a rolling pin dusted with flour.
