Ready Time
1 hrs 15 mins
Yields
8 servings
Ingredients
- 3 large ripe bananas, mashed
- 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 tsp baking soda
- 1 tsp salt
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 2 large eggs
- 1 tsp pure vanilla extract
- 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
- 1/2 cup Nutella
- 1/4 cup chopped walnuts (optional)
Instructions
Preheat your oven to 350°F (180°C) and grease a 9×5-inch loaf pan with some butter or cooking spray.
In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, and salt.
Set aside.
In a large bowl, use an electric mixer to cream together the sugar and butter until light and fluffy.
Beat in the eggs one at a time, followed by the mashed bananas and vanilla extract.
Gradually mix in the flour mixture until just combined, being careful not to overmix.
Melt the chocolate chips in a double boiler or in the microwave in 30-second increments, stirring between each interval until smooth.
Allow the chocolate to cool slightly.
Stir the Nutella into the melted chocolate until well combined.
Pour half of the banana bread batter into the prepared loaf pan.
Dollop spoonfuls of the chocolate-Nutella mixture on top of the batter.
Use a knife or spatula to create a swirly design.
Pour the remaining banana bread batter on top of the chocolate mixture and smooth the top.
If using walnuts, sprinkle them on top of the loaf.
Bake for 55-60 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
Remove from the oven and let cool in the pan for 10 minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.
Slice and serve!
Notes
Use very ripe bananas for the best flavor and texture. Make sure to not overmix the batter, as it can lead to a dense loaf.
If using walnuts, be gentle when sprinkling them on top to avoid sinking into the batter.
Let the loaf cool completely before slicing for clean cuts. For an extra crunchy walnuts topping, sprinkle them on top of the loaf during the last 15 minutes of baking.
