This recipe is for the Lane Cake filling, a classic Southern dessert. The cake is named after Emma Rylander Lane, who published the first known recipe for it in 1898. The cake consists of a white sponge cake layered with a bourbon-infused custard filling, and it is typically decorated with pecans or walnuts.
