Guacamole Recipe
Fresh and flavorful, creamy and delicious – this homemade guacamole recipe is the perfect dip for any gathering! With ripe avocados, a hint of lime juice, and a kick of jalapeño, this classic recipe is easy to make and packed with flavor.
Ready Time
20 mins
Yields
8 servings
Ingredients
- 3 ripe avocados, 1/2 red onion, finely chopped, 1 jalapeño pepper, seeded and finely chopped, 1/2 lime, juiced, 2 cloves of garlic, minced, 1/2 teaspoon salt, 1/2 teaspoon black pepper, 2 tablespoons fresh cilantro, chopped
Instructions
Cut the avocados in half and remove the pit, then scoop the flesh into a large mixing bowl. Add the chopped red onion, seeded and chopped jalapeño pepper, lime juice, minced garlic, salt, and black pepper to the bowl with the avocado flesh.
Use a fork to mash the ingredients together until you reach your desired consistency.
Some people like their guacamole smooth, while others prefer it chunky! Stir in the chopped cilantro to combine. Taste the guacamole and adjust the seasoning if needed.
If it needs a bit more lime juice, salt, or pepper, now’s the time to add it.
Cover the bowl with plastic wrap, pressing the wrap directly onto the surface of the guacamole to prevent browning. Refrigerate for at least 30 minutes to allow the flavors to meld together.
Serve the guacamole chilled, garnished with additional cilantro if desired.
Get ready to dip your favorite chips or veggies into this delicious homemade guacamole!
Notes
Use ripe but firm avocados for the best flavor and texture. If they’re too ripe, they’ll be too soft and mushy.
Don’t over-process the ingredients, or you’ll end up with a brown, unappetizing mess.
Stop mashing when you reach your desired consistency. If you don’t like spice, feel free to reduce or omit the jalapeño pepper.
Don’t skip the lime juice – it helps bring out the flavors and prevents browning.
Taste as you go and adjust the seasoning to your liking. You can always add more, but it’s harder to remove excess salt or pepper.
Keep the guacamole fresh by using an airtight container and pressing plastic wrap onto the surface to prevent browning.
You can make this recipe ahead of time, but it’s best consumed within a day or two for optimal flavor and freshness. This recipe makes about 8 servings, so feel free to adjust the ingredient quantities based on your gathering size.
