Yields

5 servings

Ingredients

  • 1 pound ground pork
  • 1/2 pound ground beef
  • 1 medium onion, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 jalapeno pepper, seeded and finely chopped
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon cayenne pepper
  • 1/2 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1/4 cup chopped fresh cilantro
  • 1 egg, lightly beaten
  • 5 hamburger buns
  • Mayonnaise or ketchup (optional)

Instructions

Preheat your grill to medium-high heat. In a large bowl, combine the ground pork, ground beef, chopped onion, minced garlic, chopped jalapeno, paprika, salt, black pepper, and cayenne pepper.

Use your hands or a wooden spoon to mix the ingredients until they’re just combined – don’t overmix! Stir in the shredded cheddar cheese and chopped cilantro until they’re evenly distributed throughout the mixture.

Add the lightly beaten egg and mix the ingredients until they’re just combined – again, be careful not to overmix. Divide the mixture into 5 equal portions and shape each portion into a round patty.

Place the patties onto the preheated grill and cook for about 5-7 minutes per side, or until they’re cooked through and reach an internal temperature of 160°F.

While the patties are cooking, toast the hamburger buns on the grill or in a toaster. Once the patties are done, assemble the burgers by spreading mayonnaise or ketchup on the bottom bun, adding a cooked patty, and topping with the top bun.

Serve immediately and get ready for a flavor explosion!

Notes

Make sure to not overmix the mixture, as it can make the patties dense and lose their juiciness. Also, don’t press down on the patties while they’re grilling, as this can squeeze out the juices and make them dry.

When forming the patties, try to make them slightly thicker in the center, as this will help them cook evenly.

If you’re concerned about the heat level of the jalapeno, you can always use just half or quarter of the pepper, depending on your desired level of spiciness. Don’t overcrowd the grill, cook the patties in batches if necessary, to ensure they have enough room to cook evenly.

Keep an eye on the temperature of the grill, as it may drop in temperature when you add the patties, so adjust the heat as needed to maintain a medium-high heat.

Let the patties rest for a minute or two before assembling the burgers, this will help the juices redistribute, making the burgers even juicier. You can customize your burgers by adding your favorite toppings, such as lettuce, tomato, pickles, or bacon.
