Ready Time

40 mins

Yields

7 servings

Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 cups graham cracker crumbs
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 2 cups semisweet chocolate chips
  • 1 can (14 oz) sweetened condensed milk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup chopped pecans
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon baking soda

Instructions

Preheat your oven to 350°F (180°C).

Line an 8-inch square baking pan with parchment paper, leaving some overhang on the sides for easy removal.

In a medium bowl, mix together the graham cracker crumbs and granulated sugar.

Pour in the softened butter and mix until the crumbs are evenly moistened.

Press the mixture into the prepared baking pan.

Bake the crust for 10 minutes, then set it aside to cool completely.

In a large bowl, melt the chocolate chips in the microwave in 30-second increments, stirring between each interval, until smooth.

Stir in the sweetened condensed milk and vanilla extract until well combined.

Stir in the chopped pecans, salt, and baking soda.

Pour the chocolate mixture over the cooled crust and smooth the top with a spatula.

Refrigerate for at least 2 hours or until set.

Cut into 7 bars and serve!

Notes

For an easier crust, use a food processor to grind the graham cracker crumbs into fine crumbs before mixing with sugar and butter. To ensure the crust doesn’t become too brown, keep an eye on it during the last 2 minutes of baking.

Stirring the chocolate mixture between microwave increments is key to avoiding burnt chocolate.

If you don’t have pecans, feel free to substitute with walnuts or even hazelnuts for a different flavor twist. Before cutting the bars, make sure they’ve chilled for at least 2 hours to set properly.
