Busia’s Cutout Cookies

These cookies are soft and chewy with a hint of sweetness. They are perfect for any occasion!

Ingredients

  • 1 cup (2 sticks) butter, softened
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • ¼ teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 4 cups all-purpose flour

Instructions

1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (180 degrees C).

2. Cream butter and sugar. Beat in eggs.

3. Dissolve the baking soda in the milk, then add to mixture. Add the vanilla and mix well

4. Place salt in with flour and slowly stir into mixture until it’s not too sticky and easily pulls away from bowl sides; if needed, add more flour for dough not to be sticky

5. Form dough into a roll about 1 ft long & 2-3 inches in diameter; wrap up in wax paper & refrigerate for 1 hour

6. Remove from refrigerator, let come to room temperature, then roll out chunks of dough onto a flat surface (one log makes ~4 chunks)

7. Cut cookies into desired shape with cookie cutters & decorate or bake plain for 8-10 minutes; enjoy!
