French Toast

I love French toast! It’s one of my favorite breakfast foods. I always make sure to use a really good quality bread, like brioche or challah, and I always add a little bit of cinnamon to the egg mixture. The key to making perfect French toast is all in the technique. You have to make sure that you soak the bread in the egg mixture for long enough so that it’s completely saturated, but not so long that it falls apart. Then you have to cook it on a hot griddle or pan until it’s golden brown and crispy on the outside but still soft and fluffy on the inside. Serve with lots of butter and syrup and you’re good to go!

  • 4 eggs
  • 2/3 cup milk
  • 2 tsp cinnamon
  • 8 slices bread (stale is better)
  • Butter or vegetable oil
  • Maple syrup
  • 2 tsp grated orange zest
  • 1/4 cup triple sec

1. In a medium bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, and cinnamon. Stir in the orange zest and/or triple sec if using. Whisk the mixture until well blended and pour into a shallow bowl, wide enough to place a slice of bread.

2. Place each slice of bread into the egg mixture, allowing it to soak in for a few minutes.

3. Melt some butter in a large skillet over medium-high heat; shake off any excess egg mixture from the bread before placing it in the skillet. Fry until browned on one side, then flip and brown on the other side; serve hot with butter, maple syrup, and/or fresh berries

French Toast

What are French toast made of?

French toast is a delicious breakfast dish that consists of thick slices of bread soaked in a mixture of beaten eggs and milk, then toasted in a frying pan. The bread is usually served with butter and maple syrup.

There are many different ways to make French toast, but the most basic recipe calls for just a few simple ingredients: bread, eggs, milk, and cinnamon. You can also add vanilla extract or other flavorings to the egg mixture if you like.

To make French toast, start by whisking together the eggs, milk, and cinnamon in a bowl. Then soak the bread slices in the mixture for a few minutes on each side. Preheat a large skillet over medium heat and coat it with cooking spray or butter. Add the soaked bread slices to the skillet and cook them until they’re golden brown on both sides. Serve immediately with butter and syrup.

What is the trick to French toast?

French toast is a delicious breakfast treat that can be enjoyed in many different ways. The key to making great French toast is to start with good bread, cut it into thick slices, and give it a hearty soaking in an egg-milk batter. You can jazz up your batter by adding some flavorings or spices, and maple syrup is always a nice touch. But don’t stop there – think beyond maple syrup and experiment with other toppings or fillings.

How do I make sure French toast not eggy?

When it comes to French toast, many people worry that their dish will taste too eggy. There are a few simple tips and tricks you can use to avoid this issue.

First, when choosing your bread, opt for something on the denser side. A brioche or challah bread works well here as they won’t absorb as much of the egg mixture.

Second, don’t soak your bread in the egg mixture for too long. You want it to be coated evenly but not soggy. About 3-4 minutes per side should do the trick.

Finally, make sure your pan is hot enough before cooking the French toast. If it’s not hot enough, your toast will cook slowly and have a greater chance of absorbing more of the egg mixture, leading to that dreaded eggy flavor.

Why doesn’t my French toast get crispy?

There are a few reasons why your French toast may not be getting crispy. One reason could be that you’re using too much dairy in the mixture. If there’s too much milk or cream, the egg in the mixture won’t cook properly and you’ll end up with wet, soggy bread. You want to make sure that the surface of the bread is dry before cooking it, otherwise it won’t brown and crisp up properly. Another reason could be that you’re not cooking it long enough. French toast should be cooked on medium-high heat until it’s golden brown on both sides and slightly crispy around the edges. If you’re not letting it cook long enough, it won’t get crisp and delicious like you want it to be. Finally, make sure you’re using a good quality bread – something that’s nice and dense so that it holds up well when soaked in the egg mixture and fried. A fluffy white bread isn’t going to give you the results you’re looking for here.
