Yields

6 servings

Ingredients

  • 300g all-purpose flour
  • 150g granulated sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 2 large eggs
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 1 cup chopped pecans
  • 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips

Instructions

Preheat your oven to 350°F (180°C) and line an 8-inch square baking pan with parchment paper, leaving some overhang for easy removal. In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt.

Set aside.

In a large bowl, use an electric mixer to cream together the softened butter and sugars until light and fluffy. Beat in those two large eggs one at a time, making sure each is fully incorporated before adding the next.

Beat in that lovely vanilla extract.

Gradually add the flour mixture to the wet ingredients, beating until just combined. Don’t overmix! Stir in those chopped pecans and semi-sweet chocolate chips to distribute them evenly throughout the batter.

Pour the batter into the prepared baking pan and smooth the top.

You want it to be nice and even. Bake for 35-40 minutes or until a toothpick inserted 2 inches from the pan’s edge comes out with a few moist crumbs attached.

Remove from the oven and let cool completely in the pan before slicing into squares and serving.

Notes

Make sure to use softened butter for a lighter texture. Don’t overmix the batter, as it can lead to a dense Kruschicki.

If you’re not a fan of pecans, feel free to substitute with walnuts or hazelnuts.

Make sure to press the parchment paper into the corners of the baking pan for easy removal. If you want a gooier center, bake for 32-33 minutes.

These treats are perfect for snack time or as a dessert.

You can also customize with nuts of your choice.
