Shepherd’s Pie I

Shepherd’s Pie is a classic comfort food that will warm you up on a cold day. This dish is traditionally made with ground lamb, but you can also use ground beef. The filling is topped with mashed potatoes and then baked until golden brown.

Ingredients

  • 1 pound lean ground beef
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 1 (28 ounce) can peeled and crushed tomatoes
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • salt to taste
  • 2 cups instant mashed potato flakes OR 2-3 large potatoes, peeled and cubed
  • 1 cup shredded Cheddar cheese

Instructions

Follow these instructions to make a delicious shepherd’s pie.

1. Preheat your oven to 400 degrees Fahrenheit.

2. Heat up some oil in a frying pan, and add chopped onions. Cook until they’re golden brown.

3. Add ground beef to the pan and keep stirring until it’s browned all over.

4. Pour in a can of crushed tomatoes, and let the mixture cook until all the liquid from the tomatoes has evaporated. Season with salt to taste.

5. While that’s cooking, prepare your mashed potatoes according to the packet directions (or peel and cube 2-3 large potatoes).

6 Once the meat mixture is ready, spread it into an oven proof dish . Top with a layer of mashed potatoes, and then sprinkle on some grated cheese .

7 Bake for 10 minutes at 400 degrees Fahrenheit , or until the cheese has melted and turned golden brown . Enjoy!
