Ingredients
- 2 egg whites
- 1/4 teaspoon cream of tartar
- 1/8 teaspoon salt
- 1 cup white sugar
- 3/4 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 cup chopped walnuts or pecans (optional)
- 2 cups semisweet chocolate chips
Instructions
1. In a bowl, whisk together egg whites, cream of tartar and salt until frothy.
2. Gradually add sugar to the mixture while beating at medium speed for 10 minutes.
3. Add vanilla extract and stir in chopped walnuts or pecans (optional). Finally, fold in semisweet chocolate chips.
4. Drop spoonfuls of batter onto a greased cookie sheet and bake in an oven preheated to 375 degrees Fahrenheit (190 degrees Celsius) for 1 minute before turning off the heat immediately. Leave cookies in a closed oven overnight. so they can set and dry out slightly.
TIP: Be careful not to overbake! One minute is all it takes for these delicate cookies since you’ll be turning the oven off as soon as they go in.
The warmth from the residual heat will help dry out process without overcooking them
