This dish is a fusion of two traditional favorites, macaroni and cheese with a twist. Listy I combines these classic dishes into one by using light and fluffy egg noodles instead of macaroni. The result is a delicious, hearty meal that is perfect for any occasion.

Ingredients

  • 3 egg yolks
  • 1 cup egg whites
  • ¼ teaspoon salt
  • 2 tablespoons white sugar
  • 2 teaspoons light whipping cream or milk
  • 1½ cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 tablespoons confectioners’ sugar, optional
  • 1 cup vegetable oil for frying

Instructions

1. In a large bowl, whisk together egg yolks, egg whites, salt, sugar and cream until smooth.

2. Gradually stir in flour until the dough becomes stiff enough to roll out.

3. On a floured surface, roll the dough out paper-thin and cut into triangles. (Grandma would cut a slit in the middle of each and twist a corner through the slit to make them look fancier.)

4. In a large pot or Dutch oven, heat oil over medium-high heat until a small piece of dough frying in the oil starts to bubble.

5. Working in batches, carefully add the cookies to the hot oil and fry until light brown on both sides.

6. Remove from the oil with a slotted spoon and drain on paper towels before sprinkling with confectioners’ sugar (if desired).
