Festive Cherrettes

This festive recipe for cherrettes is perfect for any holiday or special occasion! The combination of sweet and tart flavors is irresistible, and the pretty red color makes them extra festive. They’re easy to make, too – just mix together some frozen cherries, sugar, cornstarch, and a little lemon juice. Give them a quick bake in the oven, and you’re done!

Ingredients

  • – 1 cup shortening
  • – 1/4 cup butter
  • – 1 teaspoon salt
  • – 1/2 cup confectioners’ sugar
  • – 2 tablespoons vanilla extract
  • – 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • – 1 cup chopped pecans or walnuts (optional)
  • – 20 candied cherries, halved

Instructions

In a large bowl, cream together the shortening, butter, salt, and confectioners’ sugar until light and fluffy. Beat in the vanilla extract. Gradually add the flour to the mixture, mixing until just blended. Stir in the chopped pecans or walnuts (if desired).

Roll the dough into tablespoon-sized balls and place them on a greased baking sheet. Use a thimble or your finger to make an indentation in the center of each ball. Top each with a half of a candied cherry.

Bake at 325 degrees F (165 degrees C) for 25 minutes.
